2024.01.19 CE An example of religious freedom in Wyoming In early 2022 several of us here in Gillette Wyoming decided that in order to get our presence known we thaught we needed to have something permanent present in public just as all belief systems do. Here in Gillette the Christian stuff such as churches, crosses, and such things are the most prevelant things you see daily as you drive around. Atheists in general have no Church or such! An interesting marker here in Gillette is one between one of our junior high schools and our city swimming pool. It is a 10 Commandments monument placed there about 1975 by the Knights of Columbus, a very popular monument throughout the United States. So, in early 2023 we thought we would go ahead and ask the city if we could put our 21 rules monument beside the 10 Commandments monument provided of course that it didn't diminish the 10 commandments monument in size. We were informed on who to talk to and what we had to do and so we made all the arrangements and spent $10,000 on the monument. It took a while to get the monument but when it showed up the city decided to change the rules and did not let us put it up. So the lawsuit began in March of 2023. We sued in State Court. In March of 2024 the Wyoming Supreme court said we couldn't sue the City for ANY civil rights violations. So then it was time to move along to the Federal Courts. Filed suit in the 10th Circuit in May, 2024. Have been going back and forth between the District Courts and the Appeals Court since then and it will probably take another year+ to get adjuticated.
Have been considering putting all the docs on line but the suit has taken up most of my free time the last several years. May still do it shortly.
